SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the direction of the Plant / Facilities Engineering Director the Manufacturing / Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for technical support for both large and small-scale projects as well as providing engineering support to the maintenance department. This team member will lead capital expenditure projects from recommending alternatives to internal stakeholders in the concept design phase through production startup while achieving the both project budget and time deadlines. The team member will provide guidance to the maintenance team and support external vendors in troubleshooting difficulties and implement solutions by investigating problems, using some independent evaluation, selection, and application of engineering techniques and procedures.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Manage projects related to equipment / facility optimization and improvement.

    • Create layouts in cooperation with production Managers, operators and maintenance team members.
    • Develops design and installation specifications along with commissioning plans to insure operational needs are met including maintainability and reliability requirements.
    • Write bid documents that outline scopes of work necessary to fully defining project requirements.
    • Develop timelines and budgets for the equipment / facility projects.
    • Obtain bids, procure service and manage contract services needed for installation of new equipment and/or building improvements as well as relocating current equipment.
    • Ensure proper scheduling of resources to maximize amount of work completed while minimizing equipment downtime or other operational impacts.
    • Delivers finished projects as designed on-time and on-budget with no safety or environmental issues.


  • Provides instruction to maintenance technicians in trouble shooting equipment.

    • Create drawings & specifications for part fabrication if not commercially available.
    • Prepare a parts replacement list for ordering parts or restocking of inventory.
    • Assist in ordering parts, materials and services within SAP system.
    • Define methods to perform preventive maintenance on machines.
    • Specify method to make various replacement parts, weld, solder, fit pipe, and fabricate sheet metal guards


  • Analyze machine problems by using troubleshooting techniques, repair manuals, drawings or manufacturers' specifications to determine logical approach to correct the problem and addressing root cause.
  • Provide expertise on troubleshooting Electrical Mechanics, Hydraulics and Fluid Systems

    • Apply knowledge of functional operation of electric units and systems to diagnose cause of malfunction. Understand & apply PLC ladder logic.
    • Interpret prints and manufacturers' specifications.
    • Use hand tools and test instruments. Test electronic components and circuits to locate defects.
    • Provide instruction to replace defective components and wiring.
    • Train & direct Machine Maintenance Technicians on major installations and repairs as required.


  • Support and enhance PM Program.
  • Additional duties as assigned



EDUCATION:

Associates degree or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with an emphasis in metalworking or machine trades. A bachelor's degree is mechanical engineering or manufacturing engineering preferred.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:


  • Two to five years of manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Possess advanced technical skills in the mechanical and/or electrical fields (e.g. PLCs, instrumentation, mechanical systems, etc).
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to present technical information to all levels of the organization.
  • Capable of communicating and expressing ideas clearly and concisely, in both written and oral formats.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, technical and presentation skills required.
  • May be required to work long hours and weekends.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive
  • Computer literate in AutoCAD and basic Microsoft programs.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and CMMS systems.
