Join our Venice Family Clinic and make a difference in the community as a Prevention Advocate for STD Rapid Testing and HIV Counseling. With guidance and supervision from the Outreach and Engagement Supervisor, the Prevention Advocate will conduct rapid testing onsite and in at community events for HIV, hepatitis C, and syphilis.

Other Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing non-judgmental client centered counseling to clients and will ensure newly diagnosed clients are referred and linked to medical services within the required time frame.
  • Ensuring newly diagnosed HIV+ clients are linked to the medical care team.
  • Following the harm reduction model, treat every person with respect and dignity.
  • Providing HIV/STD education and risk reduction interventions, condoms and general clinic information to clients.
  • Coordinating and providing targeted community outreach and HIV testing and counseling.
  • Providing PrEP and PeP information and referrals, and ensuring linkages to care are made and followed through.
  • Providing coverage for the harm reduction program, which includes providing referrals, educating clients (on overdose prevention, wound care, and prevention education), providing clean syringes to clients at certified locations, disposing of used syringes in an appropriate manner, and ensuring all documentation meets the funding requirements.

Salary Range: $30.53 - $40.30 Hourly

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work from a program approved by the Council on Social Work Education and one year of experience; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • HIV Counseling Certification
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, including Antibody testing, PrEP and PEP, community resources, Hepatitis C and STD knowledge, harm reduction, and syringe exchange.
  • Skill in database management and data entry, including the ability to complete required program documentation.
  • Public speaking skills and leadership ability.
  • Skill in providing individualized HIV health education, HIV testing and counseling, and Hepatitis C testing.
  • Ability to follow through on assignments and work independently.
  • Ability to discuss sensitive matters in a non-judgmental manner and to respect confidentiality.
  • Ability to work within a team and effectively with people of diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
Preferred : ability to effectively communicate in Spanish.
