The Dr. Roman Ganta Laboratory in the Bond Life Sciences Center at the University of Missouri is seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Fellow in the field of Veterinary Pathobiology. This position is designed to support ongoing research into tick-borne diseases that affect various vertebrate hosts, with a particular focus on advancing modified live vaccine development.

Research Focus: The successful candidate will engage in cutting-edge research involving tick-borne pathogens, specifically Anaplasma and Ehrlichia species, and their impact on human and animal health. The work will include a combination of in vitro and in vivo studies utilizing cell culture, molecular biology techniques, molecular genetics, immunology, and animal models, particularly in cattle and other animal species. The candidate will play an essential role in advancing our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying tick-borne diseases and contributing to the development of novel vaccines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct research on the pathogenesis of tick-borne rickettsial bacteria and contribute to vaccine development efforts.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team of over 12 researchers.
• Contribute to the design, execution, and analysis of experiments.
• Prepare research findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
• Present research at conferences and seminars.

PhD in any field of biological sciences (candidates with a DVM, PhD are encouraged to apply but not required).

Candidates will be evaluated on:

• Strong background in microbiology, molecular biology, molecular genetics, immunology, or related disciplines.
• Experience with in vitro and in vivo research involving animal studies.
• A comprehensive understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in tick-borne pathogens that impact both human and animal health.
• Experience working with Anaplasma and Ehrlichia species and with large animals is an advantage.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Strong time management abilities with the capacity to manage multiple research projects simultaneously.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative research team.
• Self-motivated with a strong desire to advance scientific knowledge and further career development.
