This employee administers respiratory therapy care to long term care residents with abnormalities and deficiencies of the cardiopulmonary system according to physician prescription.
Job Responsibilities: * Review prescription and patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment * Determine suitable treatment administration and modifications that may be needed, compatible with physician orders * Set up and operate devices including mechanical ventilators, nebulizers, and/or compressors * Operate equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment such as volume, oxygen concentration, and/or temperature * Monitor patient response to therapy via vital sign and blood chemistry changes * Observe equipment function and adjust equipment to obtain optimal results * Consult with physician in event of adverse reaction * Inspect and test respiratory therapy equipment to ensure it is functioning safely and efficiently * Order repairs when needed * Demonstrate respiratory care procedures to trainees * Perform staff education at customer facilities * Perform tracheostomy tube changes | |
