Position Highlights

The position will assist the Translational Cardiovascular Research Center research labs, with a focus on developing and implementing processes that maximize efficiencies, resources, safety and growth of the research labs. The manager will provide administrative management and coordination for multiple research labs. Key manager initiatives include developing research protocols and adherence to general College of Medicine policies and procedures. Significant duties include financial management and training of personnel and students in lab procedures. The manager will also conduct experiments based on expertise, as well as operate, maintain and troubleshoot equipment and instruments.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensures laboratory personnel maintain current knowledge of laboratory techniques, procedures, and equipment operations.
  • Partners with TCRC faculty to optimize the safe and efficient environment of translational research.
  • Develops, communicates and implements collaborative laboratory operations.
  • Provides analysis and problem solving for the Center research planning and operations.
  • Troubleshoots equipment functioning and research protocols.
  • Solves problems that may not have a prescribed solution and requires some analysis to solve.
  • Serves as the Center person of contact for other College offices, including TReO and the finance office.
  • Attends and periodically presents to Center faculty at faculty meetings, as well as research lab meetings.
  • Collaborates with administrators in TReO and UA COMP Finance to oversee management of lab budgets and finances, including start up.
  • Conducts research studies/experiments as designed and directed by the supervisor.
  • Works with the supervisor to participate in conducting portions of research studies with other Center research faculty.
  • Assists in planning the day-to-day work of staff to meet job function standards and outcomes.
  • Supervises non-exempt employees.
  • Trains staff, establishes and communicates performance expectations and conducts performance evaluations.
  • Responsible for the purchasing of lab supplies.
  • Responsible for the purchasing, maintenance and handling of lab equipment.
  • Manages Center research assets, including maintenance agreements and repair of major equipment, as needed.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and equipment.
  • Knowledge conducting experiments in a research lab and lab operating procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years of previous bioscience laboratory research experience including some lab management tasks.
