Position Overview
| Primary Purpose of the Position |
The Department of Rehabilitation Counseling in School of Health Sciences at Winston-Salem State university is actively accepting applications for a full time, 9-month clinical-track faculty position in Rehabilitation Counseling. Candidates will be added to the complement of our dynamic, collaborative, and motivated rehabilitation counseling department faculty. Specially, we invite candidates with expertise in following areas: deaf studies and teaching
ASL.
The successful candidates will contribute preliminaries to undergraduate instruction and development, provide guidance as faculty advisors, mentor students, and conduct scholarly research leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals within the discipline and/or interprofessional field. The ideal candidates will also have a commitment to presenting at professional conferences, actively pursuing extramural funding in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, participating in departmental, school, and university service, as well as engaging in service to the profession and the larger Winston-Salem and Forsyth County community. |

We seek candidates who demonstrate excellence in teaching and interest in working collaboratively to enhance the strengths of our rehabilitation counseling and rehabilitation studies programs. The ideal candidate must demonstrate an commitment to excellence in teaching as the undergraduate in deaf studies. They should illustrate an ability to leverage various technologies that engage students in the learning process. We desire candidates who can show evidence of online teaching at maser's and undergraduate level in rehabilitation counseling. We seek candidates who can show evidence of mentoring graduate students in research experiences, or who have experience engaging students in study abroad or community service learning where they must leverage their content knowledge to benefit the larger community. We seek candidates who demonstrate the ability to participate in interdisciplinary teaching and research collaborations with professional colleagues at the university, across universities, or within the broader public. Candidates must also show commitment to their professional growth and development and engage in inter/professional organizations and conferences.
- Minimum of a master's degree in one of the following areas: rehabilitation counseling or a related degree, American Sign Language (ASL), Interpreter Education (IE) or related field with 18 semester hours in ASL or IE;
- Valid ASLTA Certification, Advanced-superior Level on the SLPI (similar ASL proficiency assessment), or a combination of education and experience.
- has experience in teaching in undergraduate rehabilitation studies program. Demonstrate evidence of ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to accomplish organizational goals.
- Demonstrate evidence of online teaching experience use of Canvas or a similar Learning Management System.
- Demonstrate evidence of ability to use instructional technology and distance education modalities.
- Experience of mentoring graduate students and faculty in scholarly activities.

Faculty in the Department of Rehabilitation Counseling prefer candidates :
- With previous teaching experience at the undergraduate level in rehabilitation/deaf studies, utilizing high-impact practices inside and outside the classroom to ensure students' academic success and previous academic advising experience is also preferred.
- With qualifications to teach in deaf minor: Teaching experience as a ASL Instructor, valid ASLTA certification, and Advanced or Superior Level on the SLPI (or similar ASL proficiency assessment).
- That demonstrate leadership in professional organizations.
- That has reputation as recognized scholar and/or teacher in the field.

The faculty must communicate effectively with students, provide detailed course syllabi by the first day of classes, and hold weekly office hours. The faculty will also provide academic advising and career mentoring for undergraduate deaf studies minors and rehabilitation studies majors with deaf studies concentration.
Teaching and Advising (80%)
- Teach primarily undergraduate courses in rehabilitation studies/deaf studies via face-to-face, online and hybrid approaches.
- Construct detailed course syllabi.
- Facilitate high-quality, engaging instruction to diverse students who learn many ways.
- Leverage various technologies (e.g., Canvas, EAB Navigate) to communicate regularly with students, monitor student progress, and provide feedback on student success outcomes.
- Engage with students during mandatory office hours each week.
- Serve as a academic advisor and mentor to rehab studies/deaf studies students.
