Firewall Administrator/Engineer (RDT&E)
**Location:** Dahlgren, VA (Relocation Assistance Provided) **Company:** TEKsystems **Overview:** TEKsystems is seeking a skilled Cisco FTD/Firepower (FMC) Firewall Administrator/Engineer to provide design, engineering, operation, and maintenance support for firewall systems on classified and unclassified Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) networks. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining network and security infrastructure, utilizing best practices and current technologies to enhance the RDT&E environment. The Firewall Administrator will also assess the security risks of proposed firewall modifications. **Responsibilities:** - Firewall and Network Security Management: Establish and enforce approved policies to manage firewall and network security systems. - Security Analysis and Implementation: Analyze network security requirements and implement perimeter security changes. - Design and Troubleshooting: Design, configure, manage, and troubleshoot various network firewall technologies using industry best practices for security, disaster recovery, business continuity, and change control. - Subject Matter Expertise: Coordinate and troubleshoot with customers, infrastructure support activities, and business units. - Documentation: Develop network documentation of security infrastructure. - Performance Monitoring: Monitor network performance and implement performance tuning as necessary. - System Maintenance: Install software, apply patches, manage file systems, and monitor firewall system performance. - Data Backup and Restoration: Perform data backups and restoration of managed systems. - Certification and Accreditation: Assist in the certification and accreditation process for managed systems and networks. - Hardware and Software Deployment: Install and deploy new firewall hardware and software. - IDS/IPS Support: Support IDS/IPS functionality. - Log Review: Review daily logs for managed systems and report unusual activity. - SOP Development: Participate in the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for managed systems and applications. - Collaboration: Collaborate with IT staff on projects and initiatives. - Reporting: Provide input for monthly progress and status reports. **Qualifications:** - Experience: Minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Education: High School Diploma required; Bachelor's Degree preferred. - Certification: Must hold a DoD 8570 Information Assurance Technical Level II certification. - Technical Skills: Strong understanding of firewall functions and operations (proxy, proxy-arp, NAT, stateful packet inspection, circuit layer gateways, and application layer gateway). Experience with Next Generation and web application firewalls. - Scripting and OS Knowledge: Shell scripting experience and basic knowledge of various operating systems (Microsoft Windows, Linux, Unix) and their network inter-communications. - Networking: Experience with TCP/IP protocols and the OSI model as they apply to production systems and networks. - Software Proficiency: Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). - Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and external contacts. - Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team. **Desired Skills:** - Firewall Engineering: Background with Cisco FTD or McAfee firewalls. (Palo Alto also nice to have!) - Web Application Firewalls: Experience with F5 Web Application Firewalls (WAF), SSL offloading, secure remote access, high availability/redundancy configurations, and network analysis tools. - IPv6 Implementation: Experience with IPv6 network and application implementations. - DoD Guidelines: Familiarity with Department of Defense security guidelines and policies is highly desired. **Physical Demands:** - Ability to lift 25 or more pounds. - Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods. - Ability to twist, bend, and squat periodically. **Security Clearance Requirements:** - Must hold a Top Secret security clearance. *Pay and Benefits* The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr.
