Job Description

This is an on site position.

Under the direction of the Supervisor and Lead Medical Record Coordinator, the MRC coordinates HIM functions with the Medical Staff and other internal and external clients in order to provide complete and accurate medical records to be used for patient care and in accordance with external accrediting /regulatory bodies, the Abington Jefferson Medical Staff Bylaws, and all hospital policies.

II. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Meets all standards of the Patient Satisfaction Initiative Criteria in order to make AH the hospital of choice for Patients and Employees.
2. Coordinates with Nursing the process of retrieving all discharged inpatient and Same Day Procedure (Spus) records in order to facilitate a complete medical record for multi-faceted functions such as: medical staff chart completion; coding reimbursement; research; administrative decisions; and on-going patient care. Performs incomplete chart processing in accordance with internal and external accrediting regulatory bodies. Provides chart copying services for transferring patients and other customers requests to provide continuity of patient care.
3. Performs other related functions of Health Information Management such as communication with physicians, administration, nursing and other internal and external clients, information, front desk reception duties, storage and retrieval of medical records in accordance with internal and external standards and regulations in order to facilitate efficient patient care decisions.
4. Acts as a liaison between nursing, medical staff, residents, funeral directors, morgue attendant, social work, pathology, Gift of Life, and the coroner to perform post-mortem coordination duties to meet regulatory and customer service needs.

Experience/Education

Minimum 1 year with medical office, clerical experience preferred. Medical Terminology preferred.
High School graduate or eqivalent required.

Demonstrates above average organizational communication skills. Ability to efficiently multi-task. Must be able to work independently. Current computer skills preferred.
