Primary Activities and Responsibilities



  1. Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
  2. Perform general maintenance and repairs on bridges
  3. Set up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural steel components
  4. Verify vertical and horizontal alignment and bolt or weld structures are in place
  5. Load and unload materials and tools


Pay Rate

$38.70/hour

Training

You will attend two weeks of training at the Railroad Education & Development Institute in Atlanta, GA. CSX will pay for travel, lodging and meals as required by collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications - External

Minimum Qualifications



  1. High School diploma/GED
  2. 18 years of age or older
  3. Valid Driver's License
  4. Construction experience with basic carpentry skills
  5. Mechanical experience
  6. Read and interpret structural blueprints
  7. Commercial Driver's License (CDL)*


* If you are unable to obtain a CDL license or at the least make significant progress in obtaining a CDL license within your sixty (60) day probationary period, CSX has the right to revoke your employment by rejecting your application. In the event you fail to obtain a CDL license or make significant progress in obtaining it and your application is not rejected, your ability to bid on open positions/vacancies will be limited, meaning you will face an increased likelihood of being furloughed.

Preferred Qualifications



  1. Welding experience
  2. Bridge maintenance work experience


Basic Competencies



  1. Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications--both general and technical)
  2. Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions)
  3. Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills)
  4. Mechanical aptitude


Physical Requirements



  1. Heavy work, lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basis
  2. Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on an occasional basis
  3. Climb ladders and/or scaffolding
  4. Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity/tracking/inspection
  5. Fall protection requirements of <300Lbs


Employment Conditions



  1. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) may need to be obtained based on job assignment
  2. Qualify to use a welding torch within 60 days of employment
  3. Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries
  4. Wear protective equipment such as fall protection and rescue equipment, hard hat, hearing protection, safety-toe boots, or safety glasses
  5. Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work
  6. Complete annual training and pass safety and track worker rules examination
  7. May require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol
  8. Must pass all required assessments
  9. Must pass a background screening
  10. Must pass a post-offer medical examination, including drug and physical capabilities test
  11. Regional travel may be required based on job assignment
  12. This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement, membership is required


Environmental Conditions

Work outside in all weather conditions at elevated heights and/or over water.
