The University of California, Irvine (UCI) Office of Educational & Community Partnerships (ECP) seeks to implement new strategic community engagement initiatives designed to build a pipeline for academic programs across the university. The UCI Center for Educational Partnerships (CFEP) within ECP creates collaborations that support preparation for and success in higher education. Your Role on the Team

Under the general supervision of the Director of Strategy & Business Services, the HR Generalist supports different areas of HR at the most critical times for the departments of a large non-academic unit. The HR Generalist applies professional human resources, organization policies and procedures to provide guidance to supervisors and managers to resolve a variety of human resources issues of moderate scope and complexity. Assignments will include recruitment, compensation, employee relations, labor relations, training & development and onboarding functions during peak periods. Serve as primary back-up support for Payroll functions.

Required:

  • Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations; demonstrates organizational skills and problem-solving skills. Has working knowledge of other areas of HR.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures and knowledge of functional area.
  • Basic knowledge of human resources policies and programs, and how they affect other organizational policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of a human resources management system (HRMS), and / or other related business software programs and systems.
  • Proficient in communicating clearly and effectively verbally and in writing and in integrating information in the completion of assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle difficult or volatile situations / individuals effectively.
  • Ability to independently multi-task and prioritize competing tasks.
  • Ability to maintain sensitive/confidential information.
  • Demonstrated analytical, active listening, and critical thinking skills.

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of UCPath.
  • 1-3 years Experience working in a higher education setting.
  • 1-3 years Experience working within a large unit with multiple levels of staffing, such as staff, supervisors, managers and student staff.
