We are looking for a Data Governance Lead to join us in our Data Governance team, based in our US headquarters office in Atlanta, GA
About the role
The Data Governance Lead is responsible for managing and optimizing UCB's US metadata assets to support effective data governance, quality and observability, and trust. The role combines technical expertise, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of data governance principles and metadata management practices to ensure accurate, and meaningful data insights. The ideal candidate is experienced in data governance platforms (Collibra, Informatica, Alation, etc.) and principles.
Who you'll work with
This role collaborates extensively with cross-functional teams, including Digital Technology, Data Office, Data Operations, and business units to establish and maintain metadata standards, policies, and processes.
What you'll do
- Maintain data catalog & ensure availability of and access to datasets (improve metadata management to ensure data trust and clarity)
- Compile and maintain metadata for data assets and workflows
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of data and metadata processes
- Ensure accurate classification and inventory of data assets
- Support data lineage collection and implementation to ensure end-to-end transparency of commercial data flow
- Support Reference and Master Data processes to align with enterprise standards and U.S. requirements
- Develop and mature best practices and knowledge of external business challenges to improve data governance
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of available secondary (commercial) data options to maximize stewardship value and establish/leverage strong relationships with UCB's data suppliers
- Lead/facilitate working groups comprised of data and business stewards to implement policies and processes approved by U.S. Data Council
- Collaborate with Digital, Data Office, and Data Management teams on platform integration and requirements
- Liaise with functional areas and IT to identify/define business and cooperate with Commercial Data Operations subject matter experts to deliver technical solutions
- Support business stakeholders on data acquisition, usage and sharing (third party sharing agreements)
Interested? For this role we're looking for the following education, experience and skills
- Bachelor's degree in quantitative field (e.g. Computer/Data Science, Information Technology, Risk Management, Analytics, Accounting/Finance, etc.)
- Collibra Data Steward certification (Ranger certification preferred)
- 7+ years of data stewardship and governance experience
- Experience building and refining Data Catalogs, Data Dictionaries, and Business Glossaries
- Understanding of Data Systems, System Architecture, Data Warehouses, Visualization and Governance platforms and principles
- Understanding of data governance frameworks, data domains and relevant business values, business rules and data requirements, data quality and monitoring, and the ability to articulate requirements and deliverables to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience designing and implementing Collibra workflows to maintain data quality and implement data management processes
This positions reasonably anticipated base salary range is $124,000-$163,000. The actual salary offered will take into account related knowledge, skills, experience and location among other factors and may fall outside the expected range.
