Cook - Serving Up Comfort, One Plate at a Time
Your food fuels care, comfort, and community. About the Role: If you love cooking for a crowd, take pride in a well-run kitchen, and find joy in preparing meals that make people feel cared for - this could be your perfect recipe. As a Cook, you'll be at the heart of our food service team, preparing meals for patients, residents, employees, medical staff, and hungry guests in the cafeteria. You'll follow standardized recipes, operate commercial kitchen equipment, and work in a fast-paced environment that blends culinary skill with purpose. From hearty breakfasts to comforting dinners, the meals you make truly matter.
What You'll Be Doing:
Prepare meals from standardized recipes for patients, residents, staff, and visitors. Operate large kitchen equipment like ovens, mixers, steamers, and more (safely and confidently). Use portion scales, measure ingredients, and ensure food consistency and quality. Follow all food safety, cleanliness, and sanitation standards - because safety is just as important as flavor. Communicate with the kitchen team and supervisors to keep meal service smooth and on time. Lift, twist, bend, and move containers of hot food (yes, this is an active role!).
What You Bring:
High school diploma or GED (required as of August 1, 2019). Good communication skills in English (both reading and speaking). Strong interpersonal skills - you're respectful, reliable, and team-oriented. Current Food Handler's Permit from Kansas City, MO, Independence, Jackson County, or Clay County (or willing to get one within 30 days of hire). Ability to follow recipes, scale portions, and operate large kitchen equipment. Physical ability to handle the demands of a busy kitchen - including lifting and carrying hot containers.
Bonus If You Have:
One year of experience cooking in a high-volume kitchen (think schools, hospitals, or catering). A love of food and a passion for serving others.
Why You'll Love It Here:
You're not just cooking - you're providing comfort and care through every meal. You'll work in a collaborative kitchen environment where teamwork makes the dream work. Your food will brighten someone's day - whether it's a patient, a visitor, or a fellow employee. There's always something new to learn and serve - from daily menus to special events.
Ready to turn your kitchen skills into meaningful meals? Apply today and join a team where great food meets great purpose.
