Hardware Update Specialist

Lawrence Berkeley National Lab's (LBNL) Information Technology (IT) Division has an opening for a Hardware Update Specialist to join the team.

In this exciting role, you will perform tasks under the supervision of experienced network engineers in an effort to develop professional expertise in network engineering. They apply company policies and procedures to solve a variety of issues and work on problems of moderate scope. The networking group is responsible for all networking devices at LBL and the Hardware Update Specialist will assist in this mission by retiring older, out-of-date hardware and installing new hardware. They will be responsible for executing these replacement projects, coordinating the schedule and performing the technical work needed for the replacement. While other engineers in the group are tasked more generally, this role will focus solely on these replacement projects in order to deploy the new hardware at the pace needed to keep all LBNL's networking infrastructure up to date.

What You Will Do:

• Manage the inventory of switches, routers, wireless access points, and other devices as well as the supplies needed for their operation.
• Maintain the catalog of information about device locations, images, diagrams, and configurations.
• Work with network engineers to find, troubleshoot, and fix problems throughout the network.
• Discover, test, adapt, and adopt new, outside technology products and services.
• Retire old equipment and complete the stages of the equipment life cycle.
• Configure and deploy new devices and complete the initial stages of the equipment life cycle.

What is Required:

• Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience and a minimum of two years of related experience.
• Some experience with information technology.
• A desire to learn and understand complex technical subjects.
• Ability to work independently, keep tasks organized, and manage time efficiently.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Experience with TCP/IP networks.
• Experience with switches and routers, especially Aruba, Cisco, Juniper, and Arista products.
• Experience working in a science research environment.

Notes:

• This is a full-time career appointment, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.
• This is a full time 1 year, term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.

• This position is expected to pay $86,628.00 - $108,276.00, which fits within the full salary range of $86,628.00 - $146,196.00 for the C70.1 job code. Salary for this position will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification and experience, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, certifications, and aligned with the internal peer group.
