JOB TITLE:

SAREC Crop and Livestock Academic Intern

JOB PURPOSE:

This full time, 5 month position will learn about and assist SAREC team members with all aspects of research and production agriculture and dissemination of research results.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assist with research plot management to include planting, plot maintenance, data collection, harvest and weeding.

2. Assist with small acre projects including geodesic dome greenhouse, orchard maintenance including installation and management of drip irrigation system, pest and disease scouting.

3. Assist with production livestock projects including feeding, processing and weighing, vet care, calving, record keeping, and ration preparation.

4. Assist with typical production ag activities including haying and irrigation, equipment repair and maintenance, livestock pen and equipment maintenance, spring field prep work, and summer and fall harvest.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

Assist with general facility maintenance including: cleaning, mowing, weeding, and preparations for annual field day.

  5. Ability to work within safety regulations.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to SAREC faculty, staff and customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work at SAREC, 3 miles west of Lingle, WY.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Must be 18 years of age.
  2. Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.
  3. Possess a desire to learn the basic aspects of production and research agriculture.
  4. Ability to work in all weather conditions. A majority of the workday will be spent outside.
  5. BQA certification or ability to obtain.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Previous experience with typical cropping and livestock production practices.
  2. Ability to operate both farm equipment as well as landscaping equipment and tools.
  3. Competent with Microsoft Office products

SAREC has a furnished apartment in Torrington, WY which is available for the successful candidate if needed.

The small town of Lingle was built from the Railroad and Agriculture industries. With less than 500 people, Lingle has a strong sense of community. Located in Goshen County, Lingle is only 10 miles from Torrington. For more information on Lingle, visit https://townoflingle.com/

Torrington is a much larger town with over 6500 people. It is also the county seat of Goshen County. Heavily rooted in Agriculture, rich history surrounds this town on all sides. The Oregon, Morman, and Texas Cattle trails all converged on the North Platte River in Torrington. Several museums in the area give a glimpse of life in the late 1800's.
