Summary of Job Duties:The Education and Research Services (E&RS) Department at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Library seeks an engaging, collaborative, and service-oriented Instructor to join our team. This is a non-tenured faculty position based at the Little Rock campus that reports to the Head of E&RS. The department faculty provides research, reference, and instructional services to faculty, staff, students, community members, and patients in Little Rock and throughout the state. In addition, this position coordinates the Library's promotions and digital engagement activities to increase awareness of library services and resources. The successful candidate will be trained in expert searching, reference interviews, research collaborations, and instructional methods for teaching biomedical information resources. This position offers a unique opportunity for a new librarian or science professional attracted to the prospect of serving in a vibrant academic health sciences library environment. Qualifications:

ALA-accredited Master's degree in library/information science, a health profession, health science, or related field required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Experience giving presentations and/or teaching.

  • Experience searching literature databases.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office products.

  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in an academic or healthcare setting.

  • Education and/or experience in life sciences.

  • Experience searching MEDLINE and other biomedical databases.

  • Experience promoting information resources via innovative, technology-based methods including social media outlets.

  • Experience providing information or customer services.

  • Experience collaborating with a broad range of faculty, staff, and students.

  • Commitment to continuing professional development and participation in professional activities.

  • Interest in pursuing Medical Library Association's Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) Credentials.

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching classes, facilitating Interprofessional Education sessions, developing LibGuides and other instructional materials

  • Conducting literature searches and maintaining searching technical skills

  • Providing departmental coverage, fulfilling reference/research requests and consultations

  • Providing presentations across campus on specific resources

  • Assisting with outreach exhibits, presentations, and classes

  • Serving on library and university committees

  • Acting as liaison to an assigned college, department, and/or unit

  • Participating in Library programs, services, and strategic planning processes

  • Contributing to special projects and department workflow as designated

  • Coordinates the Library's promotions and digital engagement activities to increase awareness of knowledge-based tools for education, research, and clinical use

  • Utilizes social media best practices and tools for creating posts and tracking engagement

  • Maintains working knowledge and adherence to UAMS Communications & Marketing policies for social media, branding, and other related promotional requirements

  • Collects, writes, and promotes Librarian/Informationist activities via campus and regional newsletters and outlets

  • Acts as Library Liaison to the College of Pharmacy

  • Contributes to workflow for the department's many services including assignment to special projects or other duties.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
