https://ualr.edu/Studentsupport Summary of Job Duties:The Student Development Specialist (SDS) is responsible for identifying and selecting eligible students for the Student Support Services (SSS) program. The SDS conducts intake interviews, administers assessments to determine academic need, and develops individualized support plans for incoming and returning SSS participants. The SDS provides advising support for program participants and tracks their progress through each semester through graduation, providing services and recommendations to support retention and graduation. This position is a 100% grant funded, 12-month appointment. Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Master's degree in counseling, education, student affairs, or social work ORMaster's degree in another field with two years minimum of experience related to these fields, such as college student advising or education, and two years of experience working directly with undergraduate students.

Preferred Education and/or Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize technology, particularly Workday, Student Access, and/or Blumen;

  • One or more years of experience working with TRIO;

  • Background similar to the target population.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Recruit participants with the potential and motivation for college entry and success; Determine eligibility of students/conduct intake interviews;

  • Conduct required and appropriate number and types of contacts/appointments for each participant; Ensure successful performance, retention, and graduation of a designated caseload of participants; Monitor academic progress and contact faculty and staff throughout the semester as necessary; Follow-up with and serve as an advocate for participants;

  • Enter data into the SSS database using effective and efficient methods;

  • Uphold professional ethical standards that do not breach confidentiality and student relationships; Maintain an appropriate work schedule to accommodate participants;

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting office environment in which participants feel comfortable;

  • Organize and/or facilitate workshops on career development and job market outlook, graduate school admissions processes, financial aid, economic and financial literacy, internship opportunities, and other workshops as needed or useful to program participants;

  • Create and/or develop cultural and academic enrichment opportunities;

  • Assess and refer eligible SSS students to other university programs;

  • Attend professional development, TRIO workshops, seminars, and conferences;

  • Work off-campus student events;

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility within the work environment;

  • Experience working with first-generation, low-income, and/or disabled students;

  • Ability to innovate to meet program goals;

  • Consistently making mature, common sense decisions based on current and/or available knowledge;

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills;

  • Display a cooperative and approachable attitude and demeanor;

  • Ability to effectively operate and utilize a computer, telephone, photocopier, fax machine, scanner, and internet;

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, and Banner System (preferable);

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes nights and weekends, as needed, to assist with student activities;

  • Ability to develop, interpret, and apply policies and procedures; to research and analyze information; and to prepare, present, and review oral and written information and reports;

  • Ability use to customer service initiatives to clients and campus community

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
