The Resource Nurse Coordinator (RNC) is responsible for designing, teaching, evaluating and executing educational training programs for all levels of professional, technical, and ancillary staff in the Emergency Department, consistent with the hospital s mission, vision, philosophy, and core values. Programs include the clinical orientation of new employees, in-service education relevant to the department environment, and continuing education offerings which are expected to maintain and/improve competency and work performance. The resource nurse coordinator will assist in ensuring the Emergency Department is within compliance with regulating standards, quality improvement, and programs focusing on customer service, including patient experience/leader rounding. As a clinical resource, leader, mentor to the clinical team. S/he will develop and oversee a monthly education calendar and net learning compliance. Review policies and procedures, regulatory requirements and nursing literature for evidence based clinical guidelines and standards of care to educate staff. The RNC will be the liaison and trainer for newly hired registered nurses, ED technicians, and unit assistants on orientation. The resource nurse coordinator participates in performance improvement activities such as real-time chart reviews, as directed by the ED Director. Develop and oversee a mentor, preceptor and residency program/s. Assesses data relevant to the learner s progress, and interprets the appropriate information necessary to develop group and individual learning plans. The resource nurse coordinator is a clinical expert with abilities to foster the clinical development of the staff that she/he guides. This individual will be responsible for assessing the educational needs of the staff on an ongoing basis and to serve as a resource/coach for the nursing staff, nursing leadership, and other healthcare providers. The RNC collaborates closely with the ED Nursing leadership to ensure any quality or performance issues are resolved. The resource nurse coordinator is available for all shifts, including possible weekends, for the purpose of education, mentoring, and development and demonstrates job flexibility. The RNC will be clinically oriented to work in the ED as a clinical team member in order to aid when the unit needs to exceed available resources; this clinical work will occur as time allows and as directed by the department Director. S/he will participate on the research committee, spearhead performance improvement projects and submit work for publication. The RNC will be the designated adult and pediatric liaison in ensuring all supplies and equipment are within the standards to be able to deliver optimal care to the population serviced. The RNC will perform all other duties and tasks as assigned or directed by the ED Nursing leadership.

Education/Training/Certification/Licensure:

  • MSN preferred or MSN in-progress to be completed within 3 years of hire (Clinical, Administration, Education).
  • Minimum of 2 years general practice and 3 or more years experience in a clinical specialty area.
  • Minimum of 2-year previous teaching or preceptor experience in an acute care clinical setting preferred. Minimum 1 year of leadership role or charge nurse experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word Documents, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel.
  • Current NJ RN Licensure required.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS and PALS certification are required.
  • National Certification within 2 years of hire is required.
  • Course completion in IV Therapy is required.

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Day Shift, 11A -11P
  • Required to work every other weekend and holiday rotation

Essential Functions:

  • The Registered Nurse provides nursing care in the health care system within the scope of practice defined by the Nurse Practice Act and regulatory standards and assures awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by the ANA code of ethics.
  • The Registered Nurse assures safety in practice and is inclusive of the principles of evidence-based practice by maintaining a realization of their own individual level of knowledge and experience and assumes responsibility for advancing knowledge of self and others in the patient care team by communicating with and utilizing resources and programs available.
  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors.
  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for knowledge of the patient population served.
  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for supervising and directing the delegation of tasks to appropriate team members and collaborates with other patient care providers.
  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for consistently setting and evaluating priorities through appropriate interventions with measurable outcomes toward improvement.
  • The Registered Nurse participates in patient teaching and discharge planning. Participates in unit Performance Improvement evaluation activities.
  • The Registered Nurse is an individual practitioner and an interdisciplinary team manager, who utilizes the nursing process to integrate all aspects of the provision of care and individualizes the plan of care to address a specific patient s needs.
