Mgr Inpatient Pharmacy Operations

Summary:

Reports to the Director Inpatient Pharmacy Operations. Responsible for the medication preparation and dispensing process and operations of Inpatient Pharmacy at The Miriam Hospital (TMH). Leads hospital-wide Pharmacy-related projects to identify review recommend and implement operational clinical technical and financial best-practices. Develops and maintains an effective work group consisting of direct and indirect report pharmacists technicians and support personnel to ensure that the Pharmacy*s medication preparation dispensing operations and computerized systems are provided in accordance with established policies and procedures and applicable laws rule and regulations. Participates in the development and implementation of policies procedures and budgets for Pharmacy Services.

Responsibilities:

Leads facilitates and/or participates in hospital-wide Pharmacy-related projects to identify review recommend and implement operational clinical technical and financial best-practices at TMH. Collaborates with system-wide Pharmacy leadership to identify and initiate improvements to ensure appropriate safe efficient and cost-effective care as it relates to medication use systems management storage and delivery.

Participates in the development of short and long-term goals of pharmacy services in consideration of Brown University Health*s mission its values and its key business objectives. Provides sponsorship to the function by identifying and recommending resources required to achieve the operating results and advocates appropriate resource allocation. Provides input into development of capital and operating budgets for pharmacy services programs; participates in explaining and resolving variances.

Promotes collaborative planning coordination and integration of Pharmacy operations and systems as well as with other clinicians departments affiliates and outside agencies. Collaborates and consults with peers and colleagues by defining functional standards and translating them into usable policies procedures and standards of practice. Develops policies that are thorough comprehensive clear concise and well articulated. Implements interprets and provides consultation for pharmacy policies procedures and standards of practice.

Continually reviews and analyzes pharmacy operations recommending and implementing operational changes allocation of resources new technologies etc. that will increase the efficiency and level of service of the pharmacy.

Provides recommendations related to installation maintenance and enhancements of Pharmacy related systems and technologies at TMH. Ensures all information system and technology processes support established clinical standards of care meet or exceed patient care quality standards are in compliance with various regulatory agencies and consider age-specific needs of the patient populations served (neonate child adolescent adult geriatric).

Provides input and assists in the development of effective budgeting and utilization of resources (people financial material and equipment) at TMH to achieve agreed upon goals and objectives. Ensures that services support the hospital*s strategies while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

Responsible for the recruitment retention performance enhancement and competency assessment of subordinate personnel in collaboration with other managers and with the input of direct report supervisors and key constituents. Provides for effective employee relations to promote supervisor-manager and employee-manager engagement and satisfaction in the workplace. Ensures compliance with human resource policies and relevant union labor contracts. Reviews the recommendations of direct report supervisors regarding employees and coaches them in providing staff with positive and actionable feedback to maximize the utilization and potential of the Pharmacy*s human resources.

Participates in development and implementation of customer-focused and coordinated delivery of pharmacy services at RIH. Responsible for the development implementation and evaluation of medication preparation and dispensing programs and services to consistently meet or exceed customer*s needs through effective continuous quality improvement practices.

Maintains pharmacy quality assessment and performance improvement (QAPI) programs. Ensures all medication preparation and dispensing processes support established clinical standards of care meet or exceed patient care quality standards are in compliance with various regulatory agencies and consider age-specific needs of the patient populations served (neonate child adolescent adult geriatric) to ensure that the customer*s expectations are met or exceeded.

Effectively and continually communicates with staff management and customers at TMH to facilitate the flow of operations. Provides timely and accurate communication both written and verbal as appropriate regarding operational changes and continuous quality improvement activities including goals and objectives of the pharmacy as they relate to operations.

Maintains knowledge of and expertise in leading edge developments in pharmacy operations therapeutics services programs and innovative technology by participation in ongoing independent study education-related professional activities and affiliations.

Participates in or leads various committees task forces and performance improvement teams as needed.

Prepares papers for presentation at professional organization meetings submits manuscripts for publication in professional journals and authors articles for publication on the Pharmacy web site.

Performs other administrator duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS * EDUCATION:

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.

Advanced study in pharmacy or health-care related field. Master*s degree (e.g. MBA MS MPH) and/or an ASHP accredited PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership residency preferred.

Prior to start date possesses current unrestricted licensure as a licensed pharmacist or a licensed 90-day temporary pharmacist in the State of Rhode Island. Within 90 days of start date must possess and maintain current unrestricted licensure as a licensed pharmacist in the State of Rhode Island.

QUALIFICATIONS * EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of five years progressively more responsible related experience preferably gained in a similarly diverse and operationally complex health care environment.

Effective interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal to interact appropriately with colleagues and others.

Effective organizational and presentation skills.

Knowledge of area/specialty specific technology including but not limited to electronic health records pharmacy information systems automated dispensing technology software equipment and automation. Experience with MS Word Excel Outlook FileMaker Pro and web browsers.

SUPERVISION:

Direct supervision of up to 5 FTEs supervisory personnel.

Indirect supervision of up to 75 FTEs professional and support personnel.
