Percent Appointment: 100% Appointment Term: 12-month

Job Responsibilities:

Budget & Financial Management 65%

  • Oversee O&M, state special, research and extension, internal and external sales, unrestricted, and UM Foundation accounts.
  • Provide guidance to staff within assigned departmental units to ensure that budget accounts are appropriately managed.
  • Analyze issues related to specific financial transactions, contracts or grants, develop solutions and correct or make recommendations to correct the issue.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports for grants and non-sponsored funds; analyze trends and make projections for future funding expenditures.
  • Prepare and analyze data and balance reports, create databases and spreadsheets as necessary. to meet reporting needs for College leadership.
  • Review and approve expenditures, retroactive pay and journal entries in EFS.
  • Prepare, analyze and submit adjusting and consolidating journal entries in EFS.
  • Act as CEHSP Certified Approver; analyze, evaluate and approve sponsored transactions.
  • Monitor / coordinate departmental effort certification and provide assistance as needed.
  • Transfer funds, set up new accounts, monitor fund balances, and develop various reports for managers.
  • Assist departmental staff with internal and external sales rate development.
  • Transfer scholarships to student accounts and process foundation requests.
  • Assist College Admin Manager with the development of the annual collegiate budget plan.
  • Audit ledgers for errors and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Act as a backup for College time and absence administration.
  • Maintain delegations of authority and code of ethics agreements.
  • Report to College leadership on issues of financial integrity, internal controls and sound financial practices.

Customer Service 25%

  • Serve as collegiate resource to faculty and departmental staff on all aspects of University accounting, including sponsored projects, as well as University financial and reporting systems.
  • Respond to inquiries from departmental staff and faculty and interpret agency/federal guidelines and University policy and procedures.
  • Interpret grant and contract policies and regulations for collegiate faculty and staff.
  • Discuss ongoing external projects with PIs, administrators and department heads.
  • Serve as a liaison to the UMD Controller's Office.
  • Liaise with PEAK management on issues related to finance and payroll accounting.
  • Work within the College to ensure consistent processes and communications.
  • Communicate and coordinate with faculty and staff from multiple departments, colleges and central units, including SPA and SFR to meet requirements and deadlines.

Other essential functions 10%

  • Continue professional development through attendance of courses, workshops, seminars, and training.
  • Attend department meetings and participate on assigned project teams.
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior in the conduct of all position responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree plus four years of professional experience or a combination of related education and professional experience totaling eight years.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in accounting, business, public administration, finance, economics, or a related field.
  • Experience with computerized accounting and payroll systems to include reporting and transaction approval
  • Experience delivering high level customer service, including proactive communication and ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues
  • Experience working with sponsored funds in a university setting including analyzing financial data, grant management, effort certification and monitoring complex budgets and contracts.
  • Ability to become a Certified Approver
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate well with people from a variety of backgrounds, communities, and identities.
  • Advanced computer skills including spreadsheet development and maintenance using Excel and web database reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage priorities, coordinate multiple assignments simultaneously, and meet deadlines
  • Experience and knowledge of University of Minnesota policies, business procedures, and systems, including PeopleSoft (Enterprise Financial Systems, Human Resource Management System)
  • Understanding of the UM Effort Certification Reporting Technology System (ECRT)
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $67,267-$74,267; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
