Job Summary

The Nurse Practitioner 2 (NP) at Ward 86 will deliver comprehensive care to a diverse patient population, including individuals who are unstably housed, those with substance use disorders, and patients co-infected with HIV and Hepatitis C. This position will also manage patients on long-acting antiretroviral therapy (ART) for both treatment and prevention of HIV. The NP will work within a large urban HIV clinic and will have responsibilities that include proctoring Nurse Practitioner students and collaborating with academic institutions. The NP will provide care to HIV positive women, men, young adults, and older adults, ensuring a holistic and inclusive approach to treatment. The role involves conducting thorough assessments, developing and implementing care plans, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in similar environments and demonstrate a commitment to improving the health and well-being of individuals living with HIV.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $95.69 - $124.10 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases and Global Medicine at UCSF is an internationally recognized global leader in clinical care, research and education. With its home-base located at ZSFG, the Division has been ranked as the top facility in the country for AIDS care for over ten years. The Division's work is featured frequently in the media, and it is often visited by international, national, state and local dignitaries and delegations. The Division consists of approximately 36 faculty members and 140 academic and staff employees. It is the largest Division of the Department of Medicine at ZSFG, with a total expenditure budget of approximately $45 million dollars.

Required Qualifications


  • Minimum 2-years NP experience in a large academic ambulatory clinic that provides services for HIV positive individuals and those at risk of HIV acquisition.
  • Minimum 2-years experience assessing, initiating, and managing Long-Acting Injectable antiretroviral therapy to patients living with high psychosocial complexity and those who are unable to achieve viral suppression on oral regimens.
  • Minimum 2-years experience assessing, initiating, and managing Long-Acting Injectable antiretroviral therapy for prevention for patients are risk of HIV acquisition.
  • Minimum 2-years experience assessing, initiating, and managing patients with Hepatitis C infection for patients who are HIV positive and those living with high psychosocial complexity.
  • Minimum 2-years experience working within an academic setting. This includes experience with providing direct clinical supervision to Nurse Practitioner students in clinical settings and experience with classroom-based teaching.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience practicing in a community setting providing care to HIV-positive individuals and those at risk of HIV acquisition
  • Experience with programmatic development of innovation tailored to individuals living with high psychosocial complexity

License/Certification


  • California driver's license (CDL) if required for position.
  • Current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.
    • Accepted Certification HIV Specialist (AAHIVS) by the American Academy of HIV Medicine
  • Current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
  • Complete a BRN recognized graduate master's degree program as a nurse practitioner.
  • Active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
  • Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day. CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
  • Current AHA BLS.
  • State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice.

UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
