Position Description:

Open Rank Instructional Track Faculty - Creative Writing, Fiction

The Department of English at the University of Iowa invites applications for a creative writer specializing in fiction to teach in our undergraduate English and Creative Writing Major. This is a half-time position with the possibility of promotion within the instructional track. Teaching will be at the undergraduate level, with a normal load of two courses per semester. This track does not include the possibility of tenure, but otherwise parallels the tenure track with various ranks (Assistant Professor of Instruction, Associate Professor of Instruction, Professor of Instruction). Profile of the English Department: Located in the first American UNESCO City of Literature, Iowa English is a dynamic department with approximately 900 undergraduate majors, as well as an MA/PhD in Literary Studies and an MFA in Nonfiction Writing. Our undergraduate curriculum takes a fully "hybrid" approach to teaching literature and creative writing, with courses like Topics in Craft and Method with such thematic subtitles as "Elements of the Short Story," "Queer and Feminist Epic Poems," "Writing for Social Change," and "How to Sell Out" and Special Topics in Advanced Creative Writing, including "Women in Science Fiction," "Writing Romance," "Speculative Fiction," "Fakes and Forgeries." We also offer undergraduate creative writing workshops across genres and a literary publishing track. Faculty teach across the whole range of the curriculum.

Salary is commensurate.
