Position Summary

Overview:

The University of New Mexico's El Centro de la Raza seeks a Recruitment Specialist to work with the High School Equivalency Program (HEP) and the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP). This position involves recruiting and supporting underrepresented student populations, specifically migrant and seasonal farm workers and their families, to earn their high school equivalency diploma or successfully navigate their first year of college at UNM.

Responsibilities:

Recruitment Activities:

  • Conduct outreach activities to identify and enroll applicants for HEP and CAMP programs.
  • Prepare recruitment materials for group and individual efforts.
  • Maintain contact with high schools, and counselors, throughout New Mexico
  • Establish and maintain a community network throughout New Mexico
  • Travel to attend college fairs, MEP meetings, parent nights, etc., requiring 1-3 days at a time with overnight accommodation during recruitment season.
  • Recruit 30 students for CAMP prior to Fall semester starts.
  • Recruit 70 students for HEP throughout the fiscal year.

Community Engagement:

  • Plan and develop community outreach/public relations activities.
  • Serve as liaison for external constituencies, UNM programs, and departments.

Administrative Support:

  • Oversee administrative activities, including recruitment reports, maintaining student data, and assisting with grant proposals.
  • Gather and maintain statistics about applicants and students for HEP and CAMP.
  • Oversee student employee to perform recruitment administrative tasks.
  • Collaboration and Coordination:
  • Participate with HEP and CAMP staff to implement retention activities, mentor programs, tutoring services, counseling, and workshops.
  • Coordinate with HEP staff to place participants for High School Equivalency (HSE) instruction and tutoring.

Additional Duties:

  • Perform miscellaneous job duties as assigned.

Stay updated on trends in recruitment programs and evaluate effectiveness.
This is a term appointment with an expected hire date of 2/1/2025. Continuance beyond the term end date of 6/30/2025 is subject to availability of additional funding.

Conditions of Employment
  • Ability to travel by vehicle or air, locally, statewide and/or out of state.
  • A valid driver's license, or ability to obtain a valid driver's license within thirty days of hire, is required for this job.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

Communication and Language (Preferred):

  • Communicate fluently, orally, and in writing in both English and Spanish.
  • Important element to consider - The majority of the students served are Spanish speakers.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Experience working with migrant communities.
  • Experience working in a university setting and federally funded programs.
  • Recruiting for underrepresented student populations.
  • Fostering professional connections with potential community partners, school administrators, and staff.


Additional Requirements
Continued employment beyond the term date is possible and dependent on available funds.
