Outreach Worker - Y on the Fly Mobile Makerspace Team - Shadowbend YMCA

Position Summary:

The Woodlands Family YMCA at Shadowbend

Provide quality care and instruction in our outreach youth enrichment program by teaching values, ensuring safety and facilitating structured play and educational activities with the children, in accordance with program standards and YMCA policy. Have a strong passion for working with at risk youth in a non-traditional environment (apartment complexes, community centers, etc.).

Provide a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on youth development, including the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and faith. To be successful in this position, teamwork is a necessity as well as ability to work with diverse populations (social, cultural, economic, etc.).

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:


  1. Implement curriculum within the established guidelines. All activities will be provided with detailed instructions and guidelines, as well as lesson plans for more advanced activities.
  2. Instruct children in various aspects of STEAM and Makerspace activities including computer coding and programming, robotics, 3D printing, basic circuitry, simple to advanced puzzle creation and solution, augmented reality, and virtual reality.
  3. Facilitate an active learning style that encourages exploration, experimentation, invention, innovation, and complex problem solving.
  4. Supervise children in collaboration with other YMCA staff
  5. Assist in creating daily/weekly activity plans for multiple sites (max 10).
  6. Transport supplies to and from storage site and ensure the safety and security of YMCA property at all times.
  7. Ensure all supplies are placed in storage site and properly secured each day program is in operation
  8. Set up program supplies, breakdown activity site, and clean the program area.
  9. Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness of sites.
  10. Maintain positive relations with children, parents, partners, and other staff.
  11. Act as a role model to the children by exemplifying the YMCA's five core values.
  12. Make sound decisions in alignment with YMCA and program standards.
  13. Attend and participate in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff trainings.
  14. Assist with program registration and keep daily attendance records.
  15. Effectively communicate with parents.
  16. Promote program within outreach site.
  17. Implement monthly standards established for program
  18. Track inventory and supplies for Y on the Fly Mobile Makerspace.
  19. Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  20. Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
  21. Meet timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. Example includes but are not limited to Kronos Workforce Ready for review and approval of time sheets.

Requirements:


  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  2. At least 18 years of age.
  3. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention trainings (must be completed within 30 days of hire)
  4. Must have valid Texas driver's license and Defensive Driving certification (must be completed within 30 days of hire)
  5. Knowledge of computer science and various applied technologies, ability to learn quickly and apply knowledge correctly
  6. Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  7. Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  8. Previous experience with diverse populations.
  9. Bilingual preferred.

HOURS

Flexible with scheduling and available to work operational hours of the YMCA, which may include day, evening, weekends, and/or holidays, based on the program needs.
