Hill International is currently seeking a Cost Engineer in San Jose, California



  • Prepares cost reports, schedule and other reports to support and drive capital project delivery.
  • Effectively utilize WBS structures to organize scope-based activities and their associated budgets, commitments, expenditures, and forecasted costs.
  • Understand budget appropriate on/contract authority vs. secured/committed funds.
  • Work closely with project managers and other stakeholders to understand scope, prepare capital.
  • project requests, monitor progress and update reports.
  • Reviews consultant and contractor progress payments to ensure consistency with VTA and/or project management policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures for cost control, reporting and scheduling
  • Maintain various project controls/reporting tools like staffing plans and related databases, financial reports and project schedules.
  • Work as liaison between project delivery and various other divisions and departments within VTA.
  • Understand project status, next steps, challenges and prepare various reports including grant reports.
  • Understand and communicate project fund sources and their eligibilities.
  • Ability to understand project details and relate them to higher level programs and agency requirements, goals, and objectives.


  • Graduation from an accredited college or university, preferably with major work in engineering, construction management, architecture, or a related field, and two years of construction project cost and/ or scheduling work.
  • 2 - 5 years of experience in cost engineering as applied to engineering and construction projects.
  • Transportation project experience preferred.


The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $135,000. The offered salary will be based on the applicants qualifications, education, experience and work location.
