Summary of Position Functions

We are looking for a experienced and motivated Project Engineer III in the Houston, TX area.

The Project Engineer III is responsible for the identification and development of Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) and Facility Improvement Measures (FIMs) that are the basis of Guaranteed Energy Savings Projects. The

position requires an innovative solutions-oriented engineer. Leadership is required to work within the project development to fully develop the solutions and stay on schedule. High importance is placed on communication skills to convey the solutions with accurate scopes of work, existing conditions, energy savings, and M&V plan.

Essential Position Functions

  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with owners, architects, engineers, project team, and subcontractors.
  • Communicates regularly with all team members regarding project development progress, open and closed tasks, and existing issues.
  • Analyzes facility utility consumption, reviews capital operating budgets, sets preliminary performance targets, and performs initial energy savings benchmarking.
  • Conducts facility walk-throughs to identify/verify preliminary scope items.
  • Participates in project meetings during all phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Evaluates, selects, and applies engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria required on projects.
  • Creates a development timeline, budget, and project development control index.
  • Provides facility existing conditions descriptions, utility analysis, facility energy profile, preliminary facility improvement, and energy conservation measure explanations.
  • Identifies potential energy savings, applicable utility rebates, or incentives.
  • Engages third-party consultants for design assistance or review.
  • Develops detailed scopes of work, specifications, and preliminary implementation schedules.
  • Solicits bids from qualified subcontractors by conducting facility walk-throughs with operations team.
  • Defines final product scope and revises scope of work documents to rebid as necessary.
  • Generates and finalizes the project estimate.
  • Completes energy savings calculations and/or energy modeling for the establishment of the project's energy savings guarantee.
  • Validates the energy savings guarantee and M&V plan.
  • Assists with the final contract preparation.
  • Participates in the final turnover meeting with the development and operations teams.
  • Reviews contractor submittals to determine conformance with contract documents.
  • Supports the project manager as required during construction.

Education and Qualifications
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering, or related field, from four-year college or university; or three+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10 years' experience in energy-related field with experience in the development of Energy Conservations Measures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Veregy's services and processes is required which can be obtained through intellect, technical inclination, and dedication to gain such knowledge.
  • Knowledge (Intermediate to advanced) of various operating systems, software products (e.g. MS Office, etc.), is required.
  • Computer software proficiency including Microsoft Project, Viewpoint, RS Means, Trimble Estimating and / or other job-related hardware and software applications that may be required.
  • Auto CAD/Revit familiarity desired.
  • Strong relationship and communicative skills demonstrated by the ability to work collaboratively with a team of like-minded professionals, owner representatives, third-party consultants, and/or subcontractor's representatives.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently manage time / workload.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to write presentations, articles, routine reports, and correspondence.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and tactfully negotiate priority with end users.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and extra hours if needed.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid driver's license required.

Travel Requirement

  • Required to travel between 10%-20% of the time.
