Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an exceptional Professional Geologist with at least 5 years of experience, to help support our geology and dam remediation practices in Johnson City, TN. This position will specifically support construction oversight for dam remediation projects, geotechnical field investigation, and instrumentation monitoring. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Assist with the deployment of instrumentation used to monitor landslides and analysis of ground movement data;
  • Conduct dam safety inspections and environmental water quality sampling;
  • Assist with development of geologic models using EVS or Leapfrog to support site conceptualization, plume visualization, and groundwater modeling;
  • Prepare technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals;
  • Review and manage written document production;
  • Prepare for and participate in meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other parties;
  • Task and project management, including planning and implementing investigation and remediation projects, budgeting and budget management, adherence to schedule, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability;
  • Business development; including bringing in new clients and obtaining repeat business from existing clients, leading proposal preparation, and developing and implementing a business development plan;
  • Management and mentoring of junior staff and managing subcontractors;
  • Work plan development, data evaluation, and report writing; and
  • At times, job may also include fieldwork including multi-media environmental sampling, sediment sampling and characterization, drilling oversight, contractor oversight, and remediation system operations, maintenance, and construction.


Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, earth science (geology or hydrology), environmental, civil, or chemical engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in geology or environmental engineering. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E, P.G.) (preferred)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of direct environmental consulting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • At least 2 years of experience of subsurface investigations on significant or high hazard dams. (required)
  • Planning and performing field investigations and studies (drilling, logging, well installation, soil, and groundwater sampling, groundwater modeling etc.); or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Demonstrated success in the development and management of clients. (required)
  • Proven leadership skills. (required)
  • Strong oral and technical writing skills. (required)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
