Your Role With Us:

As a Security Officer with Salem Health you will be asked to promote a positive environment that is safe and secure for patients, visitors and staff. You will also provide security services to protect the interest and property of Salem Health from criminal activity or loss. You will oversee parking to ensure a smooth flow of vehicle and foot traffic for all patients, visitors, staff and members of the public in and around the environment of care. You will provide physical intervention and restraint as appropriate to protect a person from harming themselves or others.

Core Functions of Security Officer:

  • Proactive Patrols: Detect and deter crime by conducting proactive foot/vehicle/bike patrols on a multi block campus. Actively patrols assigned area(s) including parking garages and other parking areas while observing and reporting suspicious activity. Performs safety and security checks on hospital units. Examining interior and exterior access control points for appropriate security. Assesses environment of care deficiencies (e.g. lights out, fire-doors broken, excessive hallway clutter, missing fire extinguishers, etc.), and observes general activity of operations for any safety and/or security concern .
  • Calls for Service: Responds to requests for security services within times set by department policy. Provides escort services for visitors and staff, as necessary; provides other public assistance, such as jump-starts and routine information.
  • Respond to Emergencies: Respond to critical calls for service including crimes in progress and aggressive patients. Provides physical intervention and restraint as appropriate to protect a person from harming themselves others.
  • Investigations: Conducts interviews and gathers information needed to bring investigations to a close, conducts any follow-up contacts required to complete the investigation, contacts police department or has the victim do so if required, completes report and computer entry by end of shift.
  • Incident Reporting: All security incidents or calls for service the officer is requested to assist in or is involved with will be documented as established by department policy. All reports are completed to department standards, and shift activities/reports are entered into the department's computer system.

Your Background and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Relevant experience in security, law enforcement or military police work is preferred; Experience in healthcare security highly preferred
  • DPSST unarmed certification preferred or obtained within one (1) month of hire.
  • CEW certification preferred or obtained within (6) months of hire.
  • Complete an initial violence prevention and de-escalation course by the end of orientation or within (6) months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification required within three (3) months of hire.
  • NIMS HICS 100, 200 and 700 on-line certificates obtained within one (1) year of hire.
  • Must possesses a valid driver's license for a minimum of two (2) years. Current license to be issued by the state where the employee resides.
