QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include:

  • Five (5) years of proven documented work in lawn and grounds care maintenance;
  • Pesticide and a Turf & Ornamental License;
  • Ability to identify plants and trees and be able to recognize plant diseases and problems related to landscaping;
  • Ability to calibrate and apply pesticides correctly as according to the label;
  • Possess a restricted pesticide training CORE certificate;
  • Proven knowledge and skill in operating, maintaining, and adjusting the various types of equipment used in the lawn maintenance industry;
  • Proven knowledge of the techniques used in mowing, trimming, and pruning of grasses and ornamental plants and trees;
  • Proven knowledge of procedures used in applying fertilizers and pesticides;
  • Ability to operate, repair, and adjust irrigation sprinklers and systems;
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
  • Ability to work independently as well as with others;
  • Must be able to relate to students, the public other college employees;
  • Valid Florida driver's license.
  • The following is preferred:
    • Associate's degree.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining a College campus and surrounding area through mowing, trimming, fertilizing, and spraying.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The specific responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining a college campus and surrounding area through mowing, trimming, fertilizing, and spraying utilizing various grounds maintenance equipment;
  • Maintaining records on equipment and grounds maintenance;
  • Applying pesticides as needed;
  • Pruning grasses and ornamental plants and trees;
  • Adjusting irrigation sprinklers and systems as needed;
  • Performing general grounds maintenance duties as may be necessary;
  • Completing other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires an ability to walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, use ladders and other equipment; carry items occasionally in access of fifty (50) pounds; and work with and move up to fifty (50) pounds of mulch or fertilizer. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. The employee must be in good physical condition in order to do the type of work required.
