Zayo is hiring a Technical Accounting Director who will anticipate what's next, stay curious and make a difference. Our fast paced, innovative and pre-IPO culture allows for this position to review and analyze a wide array of complex accounting transactions. Our Technical Accounting Director is responsible for understanding and communicating the accounting implications of our business to senior leaders across the Company.
The Technical Accounting Director will be responsible for reviewing transactions and processes related to business combinations, revenue, leases, capital accounting, pensions, debt, derivatives, equity compensation, impairment analysis, nonmonetary exchanges and other unusual transactions. On a daily basis the Technical Accounting Director will interact with several departments beyond accounting to help Zayo solve issues and find efficiencies. This role serves as a leader and is viewed as a subject matter expert by colleagues across Zayo. *We're open to this position working in a hybrid capacity out of our Denver, CO office (1401 Wynkoop).
Responsibilities:
Business Impact:
Strategic Alignment: Work closely with senior leadership and business unit heads to drive and execute business strategies. Identify objectives and challenges, and translate them into strategies that drive positive financial health and compliance for the entire organization. Business Relationship Management: Build and nurture strong relationships with business unit leaders, becoming a trusted advisor and advocate for the Organization. Understand segment business needs through financial impact analysis as it relates to current business initiatives and investments.
Decision Making/Problem Solving:
Process Management: Identify and direct process improvements and needed controls within the organization. Specifically, lead select areas within Zayo's finance system transformation initiative. Contribute to the assessment of the financial viability on new projects, investments, or potential mergers and acquisitions. Change Management: Direct the resolutions of complex accounting issues such as revenue recognition, lease accounting, and business combinations and in turn develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current industry standards and inform the actions of groups across Zayo. Governance & Compliance: Develop, lead, and execute strategy for Zayo's financial reporting function to drive positive financial health and compliance for the organization. Monitor changes in accounting standards and regulations and assess their impact on the organization. Drive the external quarterly review and annual audit process by partnering with the Company's external audit firm.
Breadth & Complexity:
Accounting Policy SME: Monitor changes in accounting standards and regulations and assess their impact on the organization. Serve as the accounting subject matter expert for the cross-functional implementation of new accounting policies, and educate stakeholders of existing policies. Team Leadership: Provides leadership to the entire accounting function. While this role does not have direct reports, it is responsible for helping the wider accounting organization drive a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement within the department. Strategic Analysis: Oversight of Technical Accounting workstreams to monitor and analyze financial data to identify trends and variances. In turn, identify efficiencies related to intercompany processes and external debt & equity offerings to support any M&A due diligence.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's in Accounting required; Master's in Accounting preferred CPA required Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in public accounting and/or direct industry experience required Accounting advisory experience at a public accounting firm a plus SEC reporting experience a plus Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting and filing requirements Experience in the telecommunications industry a plus Technical accounting skills and ability to research various accounting issues Knowledge of Oracle, Onestream, Merrill Bridge, or Salesforce a plus Advanced system skills including MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Strong analytical and organizational skills Attention to detail and highly effective planning, organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to work effectively across the Company's various business units and locations Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and exercise judgment in fast paced and changing environment Ability to effectively set priorities, manage multiple tasks and deadlines, and produce quality work while dealing with interruptions.
