Job Description

We are seeking an energetic Veterinary Assistant to join our passionate Oncology service. The mission of our Oncology team is to provide state-of-the-art, compassionate cancer care for animals and to teach veterinary students, interns and residents about safe and proper diagnostics and treatments. In addition, we strive to advance evidence-based cancer medicine among all species with an emphasis in our research on comparative medicine. The service focuses on a team approach and seek a new member to join us in providing crucial services to our clients and patients.

Veterinary Assistant Job Responsibilities May Include:

  • Safely restrain, handle and transport patients
  • Exercise patients in designated area as instructed
  • Clean, organize and stock treatment and examination rooms
  • Respond to phone inquiries regarding appointments
  • Utilize hospital information system and other software for data entry
  • Assist with monitoring hospitalized patients and provide ward care
  • Collect samples (e.g., blood, urine and fecal) and administer medications as instructed
  • Perform basic diagnostic procedures as requested within skill set of the particular assistant consistent with MVMB guidelines.
  • Prepare operating room set-up / break-down and cleaning instruments and surgical suite
  • Maintain and care for diagnostic and surgical equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Veterinarians throughout the Midwest refer animal clients to the Veterinary Health Center for specialized diagnoses and treatment. With sophisticated therapeutic equipment that includes an underwater treadmill, advanced imaging techniques, and groundbreaking equine lameness diagnostic equipment, we are a center for animal healthcare.

Shift

Full-time 40 hours per week with typical hours being Monday through Friday, between 8a and 5p.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in a veterinary medical center is desirable, but not required.

  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced collaborative environment
  • Driven by life-long learning and professional development.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and be able to interact with pet families and the veterinary team
  • Be detailed-oriented and well-organized in gathering medical histories, carrying out instructions, documenting patient statistics, and updating computerized medical records for billing
  • Enjoy working with animals and have the ability to comfort, handle and restrain large and/or small patients.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary: $15.00/hour
