Design & Construction Management

Job Description

This position will be responsible for engaging customers, departments, and to lead the design of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for a variety of campus projects. The responsibilities include scheduling, leading, and participation in meetings with clients to define project parameters, authoring project budgets and schedules; and working with architects and other designers and project managers to provide coordinated and complete designs. These designs may include preparing contract documents and technical specifications suitable for bidding or for issuance to internal construction forces. Other responsibilities included preparing building permit applications and monitoring the quality and progress of construction projects.

  • Analyze existing building mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems and apply codes and university standards to design renovations through creation of construction documents in Revit or AutoCAD
  • Perform on-site investigations to verify existing conditions for building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
  • Solve complex design, construction, and system challenges of campus mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and fire protection systems
  • Analyze project feasibility and perform or manage design studies relative to project requirements
  • Produce detailed designs and specifications of mechanical piping, ductwork, secondary electrical and plumbing systems for campus buildings
  • Have a working knowledge of heating and cooling systems utilizing heated and chilled water systems directed through coils, air handlers, and ductwork. (Missouri S&T has one of the largest campus-wide geothermal heating and cooling systems in the nation.)
  • Select and size equipment and components to be utilized in the design of projects
  • Act as a design, code, and knowledge resource for others in the department
  • Perform design and technical review for their own and others on in-house and capital projects
  • Develop preliminary and final cost estimates and project schedules.
  • Acts as a project manager for in-house design, and external consultant led design projects
  • Communicate difficult technical information to other design team members and clients with a goal to build consensus
  • High productivity, attention to detail, effective verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work well in a team environment
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

Engineer II: A Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Licensure may be required.

Senior Engineer: A Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired if necessary. Licensure may be required.

Managing Engineer: A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Licensure may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri or the ability to obtain by comity within 3 months of employment
  • 6 years of direct experience designing building mechanical, electrical or plumbing systems
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $65,000-$115,000 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
