Responsibilities

The Plan Reviewer is responsible for evaluating construction plans, specifications, and associated documentation to ensure compliance with all residential building codes, particularly the Federal Manufactured Housing Construction and Safety Standards ("HUD Code"). This is a 100% REMOTE position.

This role involves detailed analyses of architectural, mechanical, electrical, energy, plumbing systems, and fire safety requirements to confirm adherence to the Federal Standards and Regulations governing manufactured homes.

The Plan Reviewer collaborates with other team members and regulatory agencies to identify failures to conform and recommend corrective actions.

This position requires technical expertise in building codes, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail to ensure safe construction.

    Works with team members to coordinate and complete assignments to ensure smooth operation of design review monitoring and other HUD contract activities.
  • Review construction plans and specifications for manufactured homes to ensure compliance with HUD Code requirements, including reference standards such as NFPA 70 and NFPA 13D.
  • Evaluate architectural, mechanical, electrical, energy, fire safety, and plumbing designs to verify adherence to the Federal Standards.
  • Engage and assist in the professional development and training of peers and reporting staff to enhance their capabilities.
  • Perform review of new and innovative designs and products used in the production process of manufactured homes.
  • Provide technical expertise in a written or verbal form to the industry stakeholders in all areas of manufactured home design, construction, and installation. This effort may include preparing and delivering presentations internally and externally on technical subjects based on investigations and research.
  • Conduct assessments of third-party design approval agencies, reporting on their performance.


Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Engineering, Architecture or related field.
  • Minimum five years of residential construction experience, factory-built housing preferred.
  • ICC Plans Examiner Certification or ability to obtain the certification within one year.
  • Prior experience with residential energy regulations, building trades, quality assurance and/or residential plumbing and mechanical systems.

  • Ability to carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision and to successfully complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.

Physical/Environmental Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Hearing and vision within normal ranges to process and receive information.
