Position Summary

The incumbent's primary function is to design, support and secure the organization's primary storage and backup systems. This position will contribute to the efforts of safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the enterprise data across the Medical Center. The incumbent will work on developing and implementing a plan to further harden the security posture of the storage and backup infrastructure. The incumbent will ensure that all data is being securely stored with the appropriate levels of encryption. They will ensure geo-redundancy for all mission critical data and will schedule routine failover testing. The successful incumbent will possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence. They will be responsible for training and developing staff to align with the core goals of the newly developed Storage Program. Additionally, they will play a critical role in working with the Cloud team to develop a roadmap and implementation strategy for Hybrid Cloud Storage.

Duties of a Manager, Storage Engineering may include the following but are not limited to:




  • Storage Infrastructure Design & Implementation: Evaluate and improve existing storage infrastructure to meet the changing demands/challenges of the Medical Center. Develop both short term and long-term technical roadmaps and budgetary requirements. Work on reviewing the current storage landscape and present recommendations on how to further reduce the capital expenditure of storage by implementing additional layers of Data Tiering. Provide TCO for all aspects of on-prem and cloud storage.
  • Oversee all aspects of storage implementations to ensure configuration, process, and procedure standards are in place. This includes meeting with different hardware manufacturers to stand up POC's to recommend technical solutions that align with the vision of the Medical Center.
  • Ensure compliance and security controls are in place for all layers of the storage and backup infrastructure inclusive of cloud storage to ensure cyber resiliency. Develop procedures and testing to prepare and protect all storage and backup data in the event of a cyber-attack.
  • Meet with other business units to roadmap their storage needs and lead efforts on capital procurement and contract renewal for all aspects of the storage and backup infrastructure.
  • Ensure all production servers and data are on proper backup schedules with routine recovery testing.
  • Develop runbooks, workflows and provide cross training to Infrastructure staff to provide ongoing support for storage and backup infrastructure.
  • Work with administrators within IT to plan and assist with data migrations to cloud storage within the organizations Microsoft 365 tenant.
  • Configure Data Tiering policies and guidelines and work closely with the administrators of the colocation facility to ensure up-time for all critical storage solutions. This includes coordinating installations and contract renewals for SBUH colocation facility
  • Work on centralizing all storage and backups within the entirety of the Health Care System, ensuring that all storage and backups adhere to the organization's policies and procedures. Perform annual reviews of organizational policies and procedures to ensure their accuracy.
  • Mentorship of junior members of the team by providing training, documentation and technical on the job coaching.
  • Provides second and third level support for troubleshooting of performance issues with core Storage and Backup infrastructure.
  • Researches, analyzes, and recommends changes for future system growth by utilizing industry standard monitoring/ research tools for core infrastructure solutions.
  • Plan and oversee all storage and backup system upgrades
  • Maintain an expert level of knowledge of infrastructure expertise by attending seminars, technical training, or through other related activities.
  • Must participate in after hours On-Call support for core technologies supported by Systems Operations



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:




  • Bachelor's or in lieu of a Bachelor's, a combination of higher education and relevant experiencewith infrastructure and storage theories, Storage architecture; Virtualization Technologiestotaling 10 years.
  • 4+ experience with designing and managing complex storage and backup infrastructure for enterprise size organization.
  • 3 years experience in planning and rolling out new system infrastructure solutions for a large complex organization.
  • 3 years experience managing and mentoring staff members
  • Experience with cloud storage and hybrid storage solutions
  • Experience with Data Tiering architecture solutions
  • Experience managing vendor contracts
  • Experience with data replication technologies and designing geo-redundant infrastructure solutions
  • Experience with Data Governance concepts
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills are essential for this job.
  • The candidate must be detail oriented and have strong organizational skills. Excellent communication skills are essential.



Preferred Qualifications:




  • 2 years experience managing NetApp storage solutions
  • 2 years experience managing NetApp Storage Grid.
  • Experience with formation of Data Governance committee and classification of sensitive data
  • Experience with PowerShell or ansible scripting/automation.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position is - $124848 - $140454/ year.

The above salary range represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate's validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.
