Description

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the direction and supervision of the Director at the YMCA Children's Academy and in accordance with the policies of the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County, the Assistant Director will create innovative lesson plans and lead activities that support the program curriculum and create a nurturing, learning atmosphere for children. Must be able to work flexible shifts from 6:30 AM-6:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Assist the Director in running day-to-day operations and fill in for the director when absent.
  2. Develop, assist, and supervise teachers in administering lesson plans that meet the assigned curriculum and specific needs of each child.
  3. Collaborate with teachers and assistant teachers to monitor the development of each child.
  4. Run a classroom in the event a teacher is absent on a particular day.
  5. Handle issues and concerns from parents. Communicate with parents and keep them informed about their child's development and any changes to the day-to-day schedule.
  6. Conduct tours of the facility for interested families.
  7. Maintain up-to-date files for all employees.
  8. Create lesson plans, lead activities, and supervise staff for Y Academy summer day camp.
  9. Communicate with director regarding any disciplinary actions with children or emergency concerns.
  10. Maintain clean and well-organized work and program space at all times.
  11. Responsible for strict adherence to all state licensing regulations and YMCA of Greater Waukesha County policies and procedures. Uphold and exemplify the policies and guidelines of the YMCA at all times.
  12. Be familiar with the procedures of reporting suspected child abuse.
  13. Participate in association and YMCA Children's Academy meetings as required.
  14. Perform other duties as deemed necessary by the director.
  15. Employees are held responsible for all duties of the job.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  1. Must be at least 21 years of age and have completed high school or its equivalent.
  2. Must have at least 240 hours of experience as a teacher or assistant teacher in a licensed day care.
  3. Must have completed at least one of the following prior to beginning work at the Y Academy:


a)A one-year childcare diploma from an institution of higher education

b) An associate degree in early childhood education or childcare from an institution of higher education

c) The Registry Program Development, Preschool, or Infant/Toddler Credential from the Wisconsin Registry.

d) A bachelor's degree from an institution of higher education in early childhood education or child development or a license from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to act as a kindergarten, pre-kindergarten or early childhood teacher.

e) Other preservice training may apply when combined with additional training during the first year.

4. Must have completed Abusive Head Trauma and SIDS training.

5. CPR/AED and First Aid certification required within 3 months of hire.

6.The Assistant Director must have a compassionate attitude and strong understanding of child development as well as a nurturing teaching approach.

7. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
