Selinsgrove Center, a division of the Department of Human Services (DHS), is seeking a Utility Plant Operator 2 to serve as a shift leader in our power plant. This role involves managing plant operations, making important decisions about operational procedures, and identifying required repairs, all in accordance with established standards and emergency protocols. Selinsgrove Center is located in a nice, rural location just outside the borough of Selinsgrove, only a couple minutes from town, Selinsgrove Area Schools, and Susquehanna University.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Utility Plant Operator 2, your primary responsibilities include overseeing employees and plant operations such as maintaining a continuous steam generation at the required pressure while adhering to safe operating practices. Work includes taking and testing water samples from boilers, softeners, return lines, and other related equipment as well as adjusting chemicals and recording water readings daily. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Documenting accurate shift records and any repairs or unusual incidents at the end of each shift
  • Performing cleaning, painting, and preventive maintenance throughout the plant
  • Completing repairs and adjustments to pumps, fans, air compressors and related piping, wiring, and controls
  • Maintaining gas, oil, steam, water, and related systems

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, with a 30-minute lunch. Work schedule includes holidays and weekends with rotating off days.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Utility Plant Operator 1 (commonwealth title); or
  • One year of semi-skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes six months of semi-skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment.

Special Requirements:

  • You must possess an active Class C motor vehicle license.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
