Overview

Texas Oncology/Texas Breast Specialists is looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team! This position will support the Charlton and Dallas locations. This is a full-time Monday-Friday 8:30a-5p position with no weekends, call, or major holidays.

This position will be either a level 1, 2 or Sr based on candidate experience.

What does the Registered Nurse (RN) do? (Including but not limited to)

Under direct supervision, assists physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment. Promotes efficient patient flow and patient care, i.e. exams, and procedures. Performs clinic support tasks including miscellaneous clerical tasks, answering phones, and maintaining physicians' schedule. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards


Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate.
  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures.
  • Prepare and Discuss Surgical Pre-Operative and Post-Operative Care plans.
  • Ensure patients receive high-quality and timely care by guiding them through every step of their treatment process
  • Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and order supplies as needed.
  • Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested'
  • Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
  • Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
  • Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN.
  • Informs physician of patient reschedules and no shows.
  • Performs other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing faxing, chart preparation, reception, etc., as requested by supervisor or physician.
  • May enter orders under a provider's direction and supervision.
  • Collaborates and acts as resource to Medical Assistants
  • Provides nursing coverage for satellite offices as needed.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position will have the following background and experience:

Level 1

Education/Training

  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.
  • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must maintain continuing education requirements.

Business Experience

  • 0-3 years nursing experience, preferably at least one year in oncology

Level Sr (in addition to level 1 requirements)

  • Five years nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology preferred*
  • Oncology certification preferred

* Specialty Specific Responsibilities

Transplant RN

  • Position Summary: Provides nursing care from initial patient contact through high dose chemotherapy followed by stem cell rescue to follow-up care post stem cell rescue.
  • Key Responsibilities (Prepares and administers therapies under the direction): Manages symptoms/toxicities/health abnormalities related to the intense high dose therapy, stem cell rescue and rehabilitation following rescue in collaboration with transplant physician and/ supervisor.
  • Key Responsibilities (Facilitates clinical operations and patient care):Reports data to company for Transplant related registries and appropriate bodies, International Autologous and Blood and Marrow Transplant Registries. Incorporates company Transplant Network recommendations into clinical practice as assigned.
  • Minimum Job Qualifications: In the bone marrow or hematopoietic stem cell transplant setting

Infusion RN

  • Key Responsibilities (Prepares and administers therapies under the direction):
  • Programs portable infusion pumps for continuous drug delivery and provides instruction to the patient and/or caregiver in the use of the pump at home.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of ambulatory infusion pump use and maintenance, cleaning pumps after use, and proper documentation of pump usage.
