Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Department of Economics and Finance within the Cameron School of Business at the University of North Carolina Wilmington seeks applicants for a 9-month, full-time non-tenure track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor of Economics, starting in August 2025. This is a non-tenure track position serving an initial term through May 2026 with option to renew for one additional year based on need and satisfactory performance evaluation.

This position has an expectation for teaching, research productivity, and service. Teaching expectation includes 3 courses in economics each Fall and Spring semester (6 courses total) and some service support to clubs, etc. Courses may be a mix of principles and upper-level undergraduate courses but with an emphasis on principles courses. This position is expected to be research-active and contribute to the intellectual life of the department.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • A PhD in Economics with a research and/or coursework focus in Economics or in a highly-related field is required.
  • Candidates with earned degrees, or ABDs with expected completion of degree by August 1, 2024 will be considered.

Preferred qualifications for appointment as a non-tenure track assistant includes a strong record of quality journal publications

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Economics and Finance at UNCW contributes four concentrations (finance, economics, real estate, and fintech) to the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration as well as housing the Bachelor of Arts in Economics Degree and the Master of Science in Finance. In addition, the department actively supports the Master of Business Administration program as well as the International MBA program, a joint program with international partner schools.

The Department actively encourages faculty and student engagement through student clubs in addition to other programs such as Fed Challenge, CFA Challenge, the student managed investment fund, and honors research projects. The department also prides itself on an improving research portfolio and collaborative work within the department
