Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Talent Acquisition Specialist provides broad, varied, and complex administrative and technical support for UNCW's recruitment efforts in attracting a talented and diverse workforce. Primary areas of responsibility include daily applicant support, operational/technical support to the Talent Acquisition Consultants, and responding to campus stakeholders and external constituents. This position performs applicant screening for assigned postings, delivering qualified candidates to hiring leaders and successfully completing the hiring process for each assigned posting. The HR Specialist also performs beginning-to-end Applicant Tracking System ( ATS) workflow execution, supports activities to the Talent Acquisition Consultants and effectively and accurately utilizes and inputs data into the ATS (PeopleAdmin) and HRIS (Banner).

The Talent Acquisition Specialist position works collaboratively as a member on the Talent Acquisition Team in the HR Department and with constituents across the campus, providing outstanding customer service in all aspects of responsibility. This position prepares resources and other materials for the Talent Acquisition website, administers a variety of system maintenance activities to support effective recruiting processes, provides exceptional candidate care for applicants throughout the process for assigned postings, provides updates to candidate's progressing through the search process and is regularly using the ATS and other systems, social media, job boards, etc., in recruitment efforts. The position also participates in the monitoring, and maintenance of workflows, processes, procedures and systems. The HR Specialist maintains a broad understanding of HR policies including OSHR (Office of State Human Resources), UNCW, and UNCSO (University of North Carolina Systems Office) administrative policies and shares this knowledge with others. This position requires diplomacy and tact when working with hiring managers and their staff. This position reports to the Director of Talent Acquisition and is responsible for maintaining confidentiality of applicant materials and other sensitive information managed in the Human Resources Department.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from a four year college or university; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred education, professional skills and experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a closely related field
  • 1 year of direct, professional level experience in recruiting/talent acquisition, preferably in a public higher education setting
  • Knowledge of best practices and current trends in talent acquisition
  • Experience using Banner, PeopleAdmin, or other related ERP systems
  • Adeptness at change, recognizing obsolete practices, and ability to research, analyze, recommend, and implement best practice solutions
  • Flexibility and commitment to learn new tasks/systems/duties/assignments
  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations relating to employment
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to establish priorities and proceed with objectives
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to work in a sensitive, confidential environment and maintain confidentiality and data integrity of personnel records and other related information
  • Ability to be creative while exhibiting strong attention to detail, accuracy, and deadlines
  • Knowledge of HR policies and procedures and ability to maintain compliance
  • Must be self-motivated and able to take initiative independently
  • Intermediate proficiency using Microsoft Suite - Excel (v-lookup, pivot tables,) Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Zoom, Adobe and other related software and programs; calendar tools; Outlook, internet, etc.
