Assistant Teaching Professor Position in Public Administration

The Department of Political Science in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor position in Public Administration starting in September 2025. The successful candidate will be expected to teach core courses in public administration as well as electives in the candidate's area of expertise (e.g. public policy, state politics, urban politics, public health, bureaucracy). The taught courses support the Department's B.A. degree in Political Science and B.A. and B.S. degrees in Public Administration. The candidate will also be expected to teach courses in the University's first-year experience program. The typical teaching load is 4 courses (12 credits) per semester. This is a 9-month, non-tenure-track position with primary responsibilities for undergraduate classroom and online instruction, undergraduate advising, and university service. Initial appointment is for two years, with possibility of renewal and continuous appointment.

Duties:

It is expected the successful candidate will be an engaging and effective teacher with a strong commitment to student learning and success. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate public administration, political science, and first year experience courses; implementing inclusive and evidence-based teaching and learning approaches to ensure the academic success of a diverse population of students; promoting the public administration degree option; collaborating with faculty to enhance curriculum; providing academic advising; and participating in university service activities.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Candidates must have earned a PhD in political science, public administration, or a closely related field
  • Experience with teaching at the college level
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A strong commitment to teaching excellence as well as diversity and inclusion
  • Be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis


SALARY: $70,000-$74,000
