Astrion has an exciting opportunity for an Explosives Safety Engineer for the Propulsion & Structures Technology (PST) , supporting the Army Division. The Explosives Safety Engineer is to provide matrixed support to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)'s Explosive Safety Munitions Risk Management (ESMRM) Working Panel headquartered in Brussel, Belgium via the U.S. Army Development Command (DEVCOM) Aviation and Missile Center (AvMC) Technology Development Directorate (TDD) Weapons Analysis and Evaluation Division (MPM). The Explosives Safety Engineer will become a member of highly specialized team in the Weapons Analysis and Evaluation Division, supporting the test and evaluation, sustainment, and demilitarization of solid rocket motors, warheads, arm-fire devices, fuzes, and related ordnance components of U.S. Army missile systems.

JOB DETAILS

LOCATION: Various, incl. Brussel, Belgium

JOB STATUS: Full Time, Salaried

TRAVEL: Extensive Travel will be required, up to 100% of the time, as mission dictates.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • D., MS or BS Degree in a recognized engineering or scientific discipline experience in complex weapon system engineering, design, analysis, performance or test and evaluation.
  • Degree Dependent: 10 years (Ph.D.), 15 years (MS), or 20 years (BS)
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance (U.S. Citizenship is required for all applicants)
  • Must possess at least 2 years of managerial/supervisory experience sufficient to ensure positive direction of subordinates.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to use Spreadsheet, Word Processor, Database, & Email.
  • Ability to travel up to 100% of the time as the job dictates.
  • Previous knowledge of and familiarity with the NATO ESMRM Working Panel required.
  • Must frequently travel to NATO Headquarters in Brussel, Belgium as well as all NATO Command Structure (NCS) headquarters across Europe.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Experience developing the annual work plan for NATO's Ammunition Working Group.
  • Experience implementing NATO ESMRM requirements and maintaining/updating NATO ESRM doctrine/policy.
  • Experience providing ESMRM training to JFCs, JSEC, ACO, and NATO nations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement terms of reference and the annual work plan for NATO's Ammunition Working Group.
  • Implement NATO ESMRM requirements by participating in JFC ESMRM planning conferences to integrate NATO ESMRM requirements.
  • Maintain and update NATO ESMRM doctrine and policy.
  • Provide recurring ESMRM training through NATO School Oberammergau (NSO) and on-site training to JFCs, JSEC, ACO and NATO nations.
  • Lead ESMRM assessments across NATO nations and generate reports in support of NATO and host nations' munitions risk decisions.
  • Represent the DDESB Executive Director at NATO forums when the DDESB ED is not available.
